Start Fresh With A New Morning Adventure
Hey Sunshine!
As the start of a new school year is imprinted on all of us, whether we are currently in school, or many years out, there is something about September that makes it feel like the perfect time to start something new.
Mornings bring the opportunity for a new refreshing start to each day. It doesn’t matter what happened yesterday, today is a brand new day so let’s start it with some positivity and on the right foot!
Morning Adventure vs. Morning Routine
Start a morning “adventure” (a term coined by a practitioner I used to with), that makes you feel happy as soon as you wake up. The term morning adventure feels very different than the term morning routine. Routines are boring and monotonous, but adventures are exciting, full of new promise, and a bit of the unexpected. This should be something you look forward to that puts you in a great place as the foundation of your day.
Smooth Operator
What would that look like for you? Mornings often become rushed, which can lead to an entire day of feeling behind and stressed, feeling like you can never catch up. What would make your mornings go more smoothly, so you feel positive and relaxed as you move into the rest of your day? What are the things you have been talking about wanting to make time for? What are the things you find yourself rushing through or skipping every morning?
Incorporate the things you have identified into a morning adventure that starts the most important part of your day positively, leaving you feeling light and fresh each and every day!
Tried & True
For example, you find yourself hitting the snooze button a bunch of times and then feeling totally rushed, scurrying to finding something to wear before grabbing a travel mug of coffee and heading out the door to work without even a bite of breakfast. What could you create that would allow you the time to feel a few moments of calm while drinking your coffee and eating a healthy breakfast?
This was my assistant Denika’s scenario. She started setting out her clothes the night before, clothes that made her feel good about herself so she could save time without sacrifice in the morning. She started preparing a fresh and healthy breakfast with foods and drinks that make her feel light and good about herself. She made time to get ready by not hitting the snooze button (applying skincare, makeup, and perfume BEFORE she left the house and not in a rush in her car). Lastly, she added a little bit of physical activity, 10 minutes of yoga, stretching, a walk, journal writing, meditating, or if she’s really motivated, a workout followed by a shower to start her day.
These are the things Denika came up with that would work for her. Yours would undoubtedly be different. What morning adventure activities could you put into place to make your mornings easier, lighter, and less stressed to set the tone for a great day? You don’t have to commit to it for a lifetime. Just try it for one day and see how it feels. If it goes well, go ahead and try it the next day. Create a morning adventure that works for your particular life, and be sure to make it enjoyable!
