The Trick to Making the Perfect Tuna Salad

I’m passing along a really quick tip that is a game changer for me when making tuna salad. This trick will help you make the smoothest, creamiest tuna salad without having to add nearly as much mayo! It must be a miracle right?
Before I Learned this Trick
If I wanted a really creamy tuna salad I would put my tuna in a bowl, add a lot of mayo and mix. But all that mayo is not a great choice for your health or for your weight. Sometimes I’d try to use less mayo and add things like dijon mustard and/or relish to make it creamier for less points and calories. It still tasted good, but it wasn’t the same.
Enter the Food Processor!
I’m not even sure what inspired me to do this, but one day when I was craving a tuna salad sandwich, I took out my food processor. I put in a drained 12oz can of tuna, 2 tbsp of reduced fat mayo, and turned I it on.
I let it whirl on high for about 20-30 seconds. When it was done, I took the top of the food processor off, and was shocked to see how smooth and creamy the tuna was! I was able to use FAR less mayo to make the tuna creamy than when I just used a fork to mash it. It works like magic and it tastes SO GOOD!
Tip: Add 1 tsp of the tuna water, lemon juice, or regular water to make the tuna salad even more silky.
Why the Food Processor is Fantastic
You can use either a full sized food processor or a mini one. The ones I use are fairly inexpensive and work great. Don’t let the thought of clean-up deter you. Washing the container and blade (be very careful washing to blade) takes only about 30 seconds if you clean it right away. To make clean-up even more simple, just rinse and pop it in the dishwasher!
Quick Tip
If you like to add veggies to your tuna salad for some crunch, make the tuna in the food processor first, scoop it into a bowl, and then mix in your chopped veggies, spices, and herbs. Don’t put the veggies through the food processor with the tuna as they will loose their crunchy textures.
