Move over comfort food, try this instead!
/As long as I can remember,
I have loved old tv sitcoms and romcom movies. I like silly, funny, campy TV and movies that don’t make you think too hard or feel too deeply. I like the conflict in every storyline to have a resolution in 30 - 120 minutes. I like to keep it light!
There is enough drama in daily life and in the world
My love for this type of TV and movies stems from feeling that there is enough drama in daily life and in the world. I want an escape from that. I want my entertainment to entertain me, not depress or scare me. I want my entertainment to be like a mini-vacation! To me that means fun, funny, and inspiring themes.
About 10 years ago, I was going through a particularly rough time in my life. Instead of turning to comfort food to soothe me, I asked myself which movies and shows instantly make me feel better when I watch them? So, I turned to “comfort” movies & tv shows to lift me up and lighten my days. It’s not that I have never seen or loved a drama themed show or movie, but my DVR is filled with movies and tv shows that make me smile and laugh. I can watch them over and over, and even keep them on in the background if I am cleaning, cooking, or working on the computer. As a matter of fact, I have a Golden Girls marathon playing in the background as I write this!
Personal Favorites
Some of my personal favorites include classic tv shows like I Love Lucy, The Golden Girls, The Mary Tyler Moore Show, Fraiser, Mom, and Friends.
Laughter is the best medicine.
And if you really want a hearty laugh, youtube “bloopers” from your favorite shows!
The big screen
It’s the same with movies. I love romantic comedies with sweet sappy endings. Give me a Meg Ryan/Tom Hanks movie any day! Some of my favorites movies of all time include When Harry Met Sally, My Big Fat Greek Wedding, You’ve Got Mail, Serendipity, Moonstruck, French Kiss, and Big.
If you want to lighten up your day,
Put on one of your favorite funny movies or tv shows and let yourself get swept away in the joy and simplicity of it!
