Hey Sunshine!

On August 25th every summer, my friend Beth and I go to Seaside Heights, one of the giant boardwalks on the Jersey Shore for her birthday. It runs along a beautiful stretch of beach on the Atlantic Ocean. The boardwalk itself is filled with games, rides, attractions, and lots of food vendors.

We love the boardwalk, and she chooses it every year as her fun birthday activity. It’s become a tradition. I always have to play Skee-ball. It’s been my favorite game since my father taught it to me as a child. We also must play this game where you take a mallet and strike a lever where a rubber frog sits, hoping to propel the frog into the air and onto a lily pad many feet away! I don’t know why we love this game so much. We rarely win, but it gets us laughing so hard. Who doesn’t love the game where you compete with others by shooting water into the mouth of a clown, which in turn, blows up a balloon. If your balloon is the first to pop, you win! So much fun.

Everyone Gets a Cheat Day

Beth eats ultra-healthy all year round. Except on this one-day-a-year, she walks right up to one of the food vendors and orders a huge plate of fried oreos with extra sugar! I don’t know how she doesn’t go into sugar shock because the woman eats zero sugar the rest of the year. But she loves it. I don’t recommend eating these, but I always think it’s so funny that she eats them so I thought I’d share.

Zero Guilt Indulgence

So if you’re wondering what my favorite summer food treat is...when we go to the boardwalk, I go to the Kohr’s booth. It’s a famous soft custard vendor (like soft ice cream but so much better!). I get a vanilla cone with chocolate sprinkles. One of my very favorite things to do is stroll along the boardwalk, gazing at the ocean and beach, while savoring my vanilla soft custard cone. It’s a once a year treat so I feel zero guilt indulging in it, just pure happiness!

A Picture Perfect Day

We can’t end the day without walking barefoot through the warm sand down to the water, and putting our feet in the cool Atlantic Ocean. Ahhhh so relaxing and refreshing! A perfect end to a picture perfect day.
